Investigations continue after bullet-riddled body of woman found in Newlands

The discovery of the lifeless and bullet-riddled body of a 24-year-old woman in the wee hours of Monday morning, close to a well-known sports ground in Newlands East, has brought great shock as well as many unanswered questions as the victim is believed to have been a witness in another murder case in the area. The car she was found in is also allegedly linked to several crimes that occurred in Newlands East and Overport.
The discovery of the victim, identified as Tasneem Green, in the parking area of the John Dory Sports Ground, has since sent shockwaves throughout the community, as many residents have lamented the savage nature in which she was killed.

Green is reported to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Preliminary reports indicate that Green, who is believed to be a resident of Asherville with family ties to Newlands East, was found dead in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with the car doors open and the lights on.
Authorities were alerted to trouble when residents reported hearing gunshots around 3:30am. Law enforcement and emergency services swiftly arrived on scene, cordoning off the area as they initiated their investigation.

According to Advance Life Support paramedics, emergency workers assessed the young woman but unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done to save her life and she was subsequently declared dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and investigators are actively working to piece together the events leading to her untimely death.
Residents are expressing deep sorrow and concern for the safety of their community. Many gathered near the sports ground, grappling with the shock of the violent and unexpected occurrence.
Ward 11 councillor, Allan Peterson, said, “It is just sad that our ward is once again affected by this type of news. We are work closely with SAPS and the CPF to try and see how we can make our community a better place.”

Provincial police spokesperson, Cnst Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed the incident.
“Police in Newlands are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a 24-year-old woman was allegedly found dead in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds near a sports ground in Newlands on January 8, 2023. The motive for the murder is unknown,” said Col Ngcobo.
