Residents join forces to clean-up Merebank

The residents were joined by their neighbours, who are members of the Bluff Residents and Ratepayers Association (BRRA). The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) also pitched in by purchasing items needed for this endeavour.

Several Merebank residents came together on a beautiful Saturday morning and spent two hours picking up the litter at Calicut Place in Merebank.

This beautiful street has for many years been known as the ‘Merebank lookout point’ due to its wonderful panoramic view of the Indian Ocean, the canal, Cuttings Beach and the neighbourhood. It is a popular destination for party revellers as well.

“The constant support from these organisations is much appreciated,” said Ringo Naidoo, the Merebank Alliance Forum (MAF) vice-chairperson.

Naidoo further stated that over the last few years, they have noticed that fewer inhabitants of this area pay respect to the cleanliness of this spot, and many have been littering repeatedly.

“We ask our community to respect this space and use the bins provided or take your litter with you. The Merebank Alliance Forum has planned many more of these clean-ups and we are urging Merebank residents to be actively involved in keeping Merebank clean. A clean environment is one we can all take care of with our network of road groups, making us proud of our beautiful community,” Naidoo said in conclusion.
