Palm Road grounds revived by community

The Palm Road Sports Grounds in Croftdene has been restored by a group of passionate locals, who have the interests of the community and future generations at heart.

The grounds have not been in use for years, becoming an eyesore for anyone who dared to go near, while also becoming a hub for drug dealing and, as a result, criminal activity.

“We are a group of volunteers, who have been elected by the community at a public meeting to assist in driving and managing this project of reclaiming and restoring the sports ground into a safe and functional space whereby the youth of Croftdene can use to participate in outdoor sporting activities. Our goal is to get the youth and community members involved in physical activity using sports and community events. The facility comprises a soccer field, cricket pitch, netball courts, change rooms and a children’s park. We have taken it upon ourselves via private, public and municipal partnerships to restore the sports grounds to a functional space,” concluded Naidoo.
