Start a Mandela revolution with brown paper bags
According to vice president of Revolution MC, Sanjay Dayanand, this campaign over the years has benefited over 50, 000 people: vulnerable children, pensioners, women and families have received brown paper bags filled with essential items.
Each year, to celebrate Nelson Mandela Day, the Revolution Motorcycle Club embarks on a brown paper bag campaign to help the poor. This year again bags will be distributed to the community, to be decorated and filled with 10 or more items that will benefit underprivileged people.
This year, Revolution Motorcycle Club, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Community Youth Centre and Transmed Shipping, will give out 6, 700 bags to schools, families, individuals, organisations and companies to do their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

He said, “This year as our Mandela Day initiative, we are calling on everyone to do their 67 minutes by collecting brown paper bags from the youth centre in Chatsworth, decorating it with Madiba images or messages, filling 10 or more items of goodies for pensioners and return it to the youth centre. Revolution Motorcycle Club in return will host a few big events where these bags will be distributed to pensioners.”
Residents can add the following to the bag: a toothbrush, toothpaste, other toiletries, non-perishable groceries, a scarf, a hanker-chief, a warm woollen hat and anything else a pensioner will need.
“All bags filled must be dropped off at the youth centre by Saturday, July 29,” said Dayanand.
