Mother murdered in front of children

Bulelwa Mlambo sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head and was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.

A 44-year-old landlord and mother of three was brutally shot and killed in front of her children by two armed men, who pretended to be looking for a place to rent at her home in Khayelisha Ridge, Welbedacht East, last week.

Close family members told the Rising Sun that two men entered her home under the pretence of looking for a place to rent, while one remained in a vehicle that was parked on the road.

In a flash without any warning, the two suspects opened fire on Mlambo, leaving her with gunshot wounds to her head.

Holding back her tears, Nokubonga Nodolo, who cannot come to terms with her sister’s brutal killing, said that this is not the first time a brutal incident of this nature occurred in the area. She explained that a well-known businessman was shot and killed in his house, last year.

Nodolo said, “My son was also killed by a group of people while he was with his girlfriend on the street. I personally don’t believe in the justice system and the police. They cannot give you answers or protection. My son was killed in 2018 and to this day, no one has ever contacted me from the SAPS.”

She described her sister as kind-hearted. “She was forever going the extra mile to help others in need. It saddens me to think of the way she had to pass on because she had no enemies. She had no bad blood with anyone. I cannot understand why she had to be killed in such a gruesome manner,” she added.

Nodolo is concerned that her sister’s children have not received any counselling to date.

“Three children watched their mother being killed in front of them and this is devastating. What worries me the most is that they never received counselling and one of them is in matric,” she continued.

Another resident in the area, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed shock and grief over the heinous and senseless crime. The resident stated that the last few days have been traumatising for the community.

“This has become a norm in the area and we don’t feel safe in our homes anymore,” the resident told the Rising Sun.
