Imbewu sews the seeds of unity

The compelling drama series is set in Durban and KwaZulu-Natal and focuses on controversial topics relevant to all South African cultures.

This week saw the premiere screening of e.tv’s new epic drama, Imbewu: The Seed. Audiences were glued to their screens on Monday as the first show flighted and judging from the feedback on the show’s Facebook page and speaking to locals, the show is a definite hit.

The compelling drama series is set in Durban and KwaZulu-Natal and focuses on controversial topics relevant to all South African cultures.

At the centre of the storyline is a deep and unspoken truth, representing the cultural legacy between two brothers. A stellar cast has been assembled for the show. It features the iconic Leleti Khumalo, who is also an executive producer.

Also among the cast is Jailoshini Naidoo who plays Nerupa Rampersad, opposite Koobeshan Naidoo, who stars as her husband, Pranav Rampersad, and their daughters, Shria and Mira, played by Kajal Maharaj and Mishka Gounden, respectively.

The cross cultural drama series is produced by Grapevine Productions, a joint venture between Videovision Entertainment, Word of Mouth Pictures and Luyks Productions.

Anant Singh of Videovision Entertainment said Imbewu: The Seed reflects the multi-cultural environment which makes Durban and the province of KwaZulu-Natal unique.

“The show has the ability to cross the cultural divide and promote social cohesion in South Africa, showcasing a hybrid of cultures in South Africa today. We are extremely excited to be embarking on on this amazing television series in KwaZulu-Natal with our partners, e.tv,” said Singh.

Duma Ndlovu of Word of Mouth Pictures said,  In South Africa, we have not yet had the opportunity to see Indians and Africans come together to tell a story with a social cohesion message and Imbewu: The Seed will deliver this to audiences.”

The media launch of the show was held in Durban recently and members of the media were treated to a set tour and got the chance to interact with the cast, crew and directors.
