Sherwood Primary teacher leads school to badminton success
Sherwood Primary extended its congratulations to Mrs Balkaran, Keegan, and Kameryn on their achievements, wishing them continued success as they pursue their badminton aspirations.
Sherwood Primary School is celebrating a major sporting achievement after its badminton team was crowned champions of the KwaZulu-Natal Schools Badminton League, marking another milestone under the guidance of long-serving educator and coach, Mrs Balkaran.
For the past 18 years, Mrs Balkaran has led the school’s badminton programme, nurturing young talent and inspiring generations of pupils through her passion, commitment and dedication to the sport.
Her coaching has produced numerous provincial players over the years, with several former Sherwood Primary pupils going on to represent KwaZulu-Natal and some now competing in badminton tournaments overseas.
Among this year’s standout performers are Keegan Murray and Kameryn Lally, who have both earned provincial colours.

Kameryn has been selected to represent the KwaZulu-Natal under-17 team at the South African National Badminton Championships, which will be held in Cape Town during the July school holidays. Keegan has also been recognised for his talent after being selected for the KwaZulu-Natal under-13 team.
The school praised Mrs Balkaran for her unwavering commitment to developing young athletes, both on and off the court, and for creating opportunities for pupils to excel at provincial and national level.
