Colour, unity and pride fill Durban streets

The parade transformed Durban’s city centre into a sea of colour, music and celebration as participants marched peacefully in support of dignity, acceptance and equal rights for all.

Hundreds of people took to the streets of the Durban CBD on Saturday for the annual Durban Pride Parade, marching along Dr Pixley KaSeme Street before culminating in a vibrant celebration at Gugu Dlamini Park.

Carrying rainbow flags, placards and banners, participants from across KwaZulu-Natal marched in a colourful display of solidarity, calling for equality, inclusion and the protection of the rights of LGBTQIA+ people.

Durban Pride 2026 brought together government representatives, civil society organisations, businesses, community groups and LGBTQIA+ activists in what organisers described as more than a celebration, but a powerful demonstration of unity, visibility and the continued fight for human rights.

The event received support from the Department of Health, Health Systems Trust, the Aurum Institute POP INN Programme, Mpilonhle, the Office of the Premier, the Office of the Speaker in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, TB HIV Care, TransHope and several local businesses and community organisations. Addressing participants during the march, the speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature paid tribute to activists who continue to champion equality and human rights across the province.
