Award-winning SCJ Volunteers hosts successful blood drive and wellness day in Durban

Hosted at the Florida Road Basketball Court, the campaign aimed to encourage active citizenship, youth volunteerism, preventative healthcare, and community participation.

Fresh from being crowned Best Volunteer Organisation at the Icons of Africa Awards 2026, SCJ Volunteers once again demonstrated its commitment to serving communities by hosting a successful blood drive and wellness day on Florida Road, Durban, in partnership with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).

Held in celebration of Youth Month and World Blood Donor Day, the event brought together residents of Morningside and the broader Durban community in a united effort to save lives through voluntary blood donation and promote health awareness.

Hosted at the Florida Road Basketball Court, the campaign aimed to encourage active citizenship, youth volunteerism, preventative healthcare, and community participation.

Community members responded enthusiastically, with 64 successful blood donations collected, making a meaningful contribution towards supporting local hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The blood drive forms part of an ongoing partnership between SCJ Volunteers and SANBS, established through a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023 to advance blood donation and health awareness initiatives across South Africa.

Speaking on the success of the event, SCJ Volunteers expressed gratitude to the community, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders who contributed to the day’s impact.

“Every blood donation represents an opportunity to save lives. We are encouraged by the support shown by the Durban community and remain committed to creating opportunities for citizens to serve, volunteer, and make a difference where it matters most,” said an SCJ Volunteers representative.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of collaboration between community organisations, healthcare providers, local businesses, and residents in addressing societal needs and promoting public wellbeing.

The event follows a remarkable period of recognition for SCJ Volunteers, which has been honoured for its dedication to community service at both the South African Heroes Awards 2025 and the Icons of Africa Awards 2026.

As SCJ Volunteers continues to expand its impact through volunteer-driven initiatives, the organisation remains committed to empowering communities through practical acts of service and social responsibility.
