Milestone anniversary marked with joy and reflection for Settlers seniors
For 15 years, the Settlers Senior Citizens Club has provided a space where seniors can build meaningful friendships, remain socially active and support one another.
The Settlers Senior Citizens Club (SSCC) celebrated a major milestone on Saturday, May 30, as members gathered at the SSCC Temple Hall in Newlands West to commemorate the club’s 15th anniversary.
A total of 83 members and eight special guests, including several founder members who helped establish the club in 2011, attended the celebration, which honoured 15 years of friendship, fellowship, support and community service.
The event, held under the leadership of chairman, Elvis Pillay, featured music, dancing, entertainment and opportunities for members to reflect on the club’s journey and achievements over the years.
Deputy chairman, Sunjith Sewsunker, said the anniversary was a testament to the club’s enduring commitment to the wellbeing of senior citizens.
“For 15 years, the Settlers Senior Citizens Club has provided a space where seniors can build meaningful friendships, remain socially active and support one another. This milestone is not only a celebration of our history but also of the strong sense of community that continues to unite our members,” said Sewsunker.

Guests were treated to a hearty breakfast, refreshments, and a sumptuous lunch featuring a variety of traditional home-style dishes, followed by desserts and anniversary cakes.
As part of the celebrations, each member received a commemorative 15th anniversary goody bag and a specially embroidered hand towel as a keepsake of the occasion.
Sewsunker thanked the committee members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters whose dedication has contributed to the club’s success over the years.
“The continued growth of our club would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our members, committee and community partners. We look forward to continuing our mission of promoting active ageing, companionship and social engagement for many years to come,” he added.
