Officers accused of conspiring to kill alleged drug lord granted bail
The state had originally opposed bail, as the accused resided in the same area and had allegedly conspired to take down rival drug dealers in another area.
Two police officers, from the SAPS and Metro Police, respectively, have received bail after being accused of conspiring to murder an alleged drug lord.
Provincial police spokesperson, Col Robert Netshiunda, confirmed the arrests.

He said, “Police in Bayview, arrested two accused, aged 33 and 35, for conspiracy to commit murder. The accused appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on Friday, September 12, and were released on R4, 000 bail each. Their case was postponed to October.”
According to court documents, the accused, 33-year-old Mohamed Gani and 35-year-old Winston Chetty, who are both from Bayview, were working with another individual over the past two months to kill a person known as Lloyd.

Gani has apparently been a police officer for the past eight years, while Chetty has 15 years of service. Their bail was granted with the conditions of staying out of Bayview and not interfering with the complainant.
