A hero’s welcome for SA Kho Kho team
Deputy chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Cllr Vusi Mngadi applauded the team for their sterling performance during the World Cup. He said it was exciting that the team, which was headed by a local coach, performed well on an international stage.
The city is proud of the KZN Kho Kho players, who were part of the team representing South Africa at the recent Kho Kho World Cup 2025 held in India. The Kho Kho South African squad, coached by Xolile Ndaba from Chesterville, made it to the semi-finals during the World Cup.
Kho Kho is an indigenous traditional South Asian sport. The match starts with the active chaser trying to tag or touch one of the three defenders.

“The city takes indigenous games very seriously, and we want to continue and nurture this talent among the youth. We congratulate the head coach and the entire team for obtaining third place globally,” said Cllr Mngadi.
Ndaba expressed his gratitude to the city and the Department of Sports and Recreation for their support and enthusiasm for the team while in India. He said they fought a good fight at the World Cup, however, there were game rules that were foreign to them which posed some difficulties for the team.
He thanked his team for the great performance and their hard work. Ndaba said they will go back to the drawing board to prepare for the next World Cup to ensure they bring the cup home.
