R1 billion road construction project launched in Umdoni

Umdoni Municipality mayor, Cllr Mbali Cele-Luthuli, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, which promises to improve the quality of life for Umdoni residents. The road rehabilitation project is vital, given the road’s severe damage.

A R1 billion road construction project was officially announced by MEC of Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, in KwaDumisa, ward five, on Tuesday, October 1. The project will rehabilitate road P22/1 in Umdoni, benefiting rural communities.

Local leaders and communities welcomed the R1 billion investment. Of this amount, R250 million will benefit emerging entrepreneurs in the local community.

“This road was in a terrible condition, damaged by floods and trucks,” MEC Duma said. He vowed to take firm action against criminals attempting to disrupt construction. “We have met with Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, and law enforcement agencies will show no mercy,” he added.
