Chatsworth Hospice harvests success with hydroponic garden

The hydroponic garden is a long-awaited and much-anticipated project that serves to generate much-needed funds to sustain the valuable palliative care rendered free of charge to patients of the Chatsworth Hospice. It also serves to provide fresh, organic produce to encourage healthier lifestyles for community members as a healthy diet is integral to maintaining good health.

The Chatsworth Regional Hospice Association, situated at Strelitzia Avenue, Silverglen, is proudly reaping the fruits of their hydroponic garden. The now fully functional hydroponic garden is yielding a healthy crop of tomatoes and other vegetables, which will, upon availability, be for sale to households and businesses. While it is only tomatoes that have been harvested presently, there will soon be dhania and mint available for sale.

The first harvest of tomatoes was sold out, and the overwhelming support from customers has been most encouraging and a clear testament to the success of the hydroponic garden project.

All vegetables will be sold from the hospice charity shoppe, situated on the premises of the Chatsworth Hospice. The charity shoppe is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 3:30pm. Shoppers are encouraged to call the hospice before going to purchase, especially when making bulk purchases.

“We are extremely excited and elated by this new project and cannot wait to harvest the vegetables that the hydroponic garden will yield,” commented Thilaga Pillay, the president of Chatsworth Hospice.

The Chatsworth Hospice has been compassionately serving the palliative care needs of its patients for the last 33 years and it is projects like these that help generate the much-needed funds required to sustain the noble work that characterises the Chatsworth Hospice.

“We record our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to members of our community who so spontaneously and generously join hands with us to be a beacon of hope and comfort to our patients and look forward to their support with this latest project,” concluded Pillay.
