Merry Hill Primary principal gracefully steps into retirement

The SEM, Mr P Naidoo, was one of the speakers at the glittering farewell function held at the school to honour and celebrate her exemplary career. Speakers spoke about Mrs Naidoo’s contributions to the education fraternity and her profound impact on her colleagues as well as pupils.

Education officials, principals, family members, friends, staff, and pupils converged at Merry Hill Primary School to bid farewell to the beloved principal, Mrs S Naidoo, who put down her chalk after serving the education fraternity with distinction and unwavering dedication for the past 39 years. Mrs Naidoo was at the helm of Merry Hill Primary for almost 11 years.

During this time, she has made an indelible impact on the lives of pupils, staff, and the community of Bayview, which she so passionately served. Born and raised in Westcliff, Mrs Naidoo has always been passionate about harnessing the power of education to transform lives. Despite her many achievements, which include holding a master’s degree in education, the effervescent and dynamic Mrs Naidoo has remained humble and committed to positively impacting the lives of her pupils, colleagues, and staff.

One of her most indelible contributions includes her presenting a paper on well-resourced schools to an international audience at the second South African Education Research Association (SAERA). She also presented a paper at the Chatsworth and Districts Principal’s Forum on ‘Inspirational Leadership’.

In addition to her many accolades and achievements to enhance education, Mrs Naidoo actively promoted sport. She served as the secretary of the Croftdene and Bayview Swimming Clubs. She also served as an official for KZN Aquatics. Mrs Naidoo was the team manager for the KZN team at the SA Games in 2007 and officiated for the FIFA World Cup at King’s Park Stadium.

She also composed the school song, which will be sung with pride by generations of pupils, who pass through the portals of Merry Hill Primary School. It was a bittersweet day, not just for the pupils and staff, but for the community of Bayview and the educational fraternity.

She will be remembered fondly as a passionate professional and a relentless humanitarian. Mrs Naidoo’s inspirational career will be an abiding testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and diligence. Her indelible and sterling legacy will live on and continue to inspire pupils and teachers to strive for success and make a meaningful contribution to society.
