Chinmaya Mission’s cultural night: Hundreds pledge to eradicate hunger in Durban
The Chinmaya Mission expresses heartfelt gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and participants, and encourages all to become part of this cosmic effort to nourish the less fortunate, to love the less loved, and to expand and make all sections of society a part of its heart!
Last week, the Chinmaya Mission hosted its annual flagship community event, ‘Samarpanam’, at the Kendra Hall. A vibrant confluence of soulful music, classical dance, and a three-course dinner for all participants, the cultural evening was one to remember for a long time.
In the esteemed presence of Pujya Swami Abhedananda (spiritual in-charge, Chinmaya Mission South Africa), and Her Excellency, Dr Anasuya Boligarla (director, Swami Vivekananda Culture Centre, Indian Consulate, Durban), ‘Samarpanam’ became a landmark occasion that introduced Chinmaya Mission’s visionary ‘Nourish to Flourish’ project to the community, that aims to feed more than 2, 000 underprivileged families and children across Durban, every single day, free of cost, starting August 2024.
Celebrated Kathak dancer, Manesh Maharaj and Carnatic maestro, Karthiegasen Pillay gave spectacular performances, making the evening enjoyable for all attendees.

Over 450 people from across the community participated in the event, which included principals of schools with underprivileged pupils, heads of civic associations and NGOs, representatives of religious organisations, media professionals, and owners and suppliers of grocery stores, among others.
The Chinmaya Mission was humbled to achieve the feat of bringing diverse populations together for unparalleled celebration, inspiration, and transformation, and a pledge for ‘each one, to feed some’ and create their legacy of compassion, contributing to the upliftment of our brothers and sisters and future generations.
