Brazen robbers target cash-strapped Everest Primary School

Most financially cash-strapped Chatsworth schools are fast becoming soft targets in the past month as brazen armed robbers are using the cover of darkness to commit robberies and vandalism.
The latest school to come under severe attack was Everest Primary on Himalaya Drive in Shallcross where armed robbers tied up security guards and robbed the school of valuables.

A parent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was disappointed at how the school ran its day-to-day operation.
The young parent said, “With a low rate of collection of school fees, high water and electricity bills, lack of maintenance, poor school governance and lack of security and now the latest incident of vandalism and robbery, it appears that the school will find it extremely difficult to return to a smooth functional and learning state. I clearly remember when I was a pupil at the school- it was a model school that stood out from many other primary schools in the area. We had good teachers and our principal was firm and displayed remarkable leadership qualities. Today, the school has taken a turn for the worse and with the latest incident of vandalism and robbery, I do not know whether we can recover. I am afraid if the school management team does not get their act together, the school will go down even more.”
Another parent said the principal and governing body cannot only be held responsible. “All school stakeholders need to come to the party to resolve the issues at hand,” said the parent.

Principal of the school, Anesh Singh, was direct in his comment, stating that if any parent has an issue with the school, its facilities or management, they are urged to make contact to find reasoning and resolve.
Singh added that security is currently being ‘beefed’ up to ensure that such an instance never befalls the school again.
