WATCH: Merebank Book Project hosts successful inaugural science quiz
The science quiz, which was conceptualised and executed by the very capable Paul Dudrajh, a retired school principal and an active member of the MBP, aimed to promote scientific knowledge and instil a love for learning among the grade 11 pupils.
The Merebank Book Project, a non-profit community initiative that aims to document the history and development of Merebank, recently hosted its inaugural science quiz.
The highly competitive event was a resounding success, attracting participants from all three high schools in Merebank including Merebank Secondary, PR Pather Secondary, and Ganges Secondary School.
The science quiz, which was conceptualised and executed by the very capable Paul Dudrajh, a retired school principal and an active member of the MBP, aimed to promote scientific knowledge and instil a love for learning among the grade 11 pupils.
A generous Dudrajh went above the call of duty by further donating the substantial prize money that was awarded to the participants. Dudrajh also said the extremely high standard of participation among the participants revealed a strong interest in scientific knowledge and competition among the pupils.
The results reflected the extremely competitive edge and high standards when there was a tie for the first position between Merebank Secondary and PR Pather Secondary.

After two nail-biting attempts to break the deadlock and find an ultimate winner, the judges decided to share the first prize between these two schools with Ganges coming out a close third.
“It is refreshing to learn that the pupils have what it takes to excel in the sciences. In addition to the substantial prize money sponsored by Dudrajh, we also awarded three vouchers of R200 each to the third-place contestants from Ganges Secondary. This was sponsored by Vimal Ramkaylas of the Dot Dot online store,” said the MBP organising secretary, Jeeven Padayachee.
For all the participants, audience members and organisers of the event, it was an enthralling experience and a major step in achieving the over-arching objectives of revitalising Merebank.
He also thanked every member of the MBK and the various role-players from each school who lent a hand in ensuring the success of the event.
