Brighton Beach police honour women through static display
The display was dressed in the Women’s Month theme colours of purple to signify justice, dignity and being loyal to the cause, green to symbolise hope and white to represent purity.
Celebrating women’s monumental achievements and rallying for gender equality were the main objectives of the Brighton Beach SAPS mini static display, held recently to celebrate Women’s Month.
The display was dressed in the Women’s Month theme colours of purple to signify justice, dignity and being loyal to the cause, green to symbolise hope and white to represent purity.
One of the static displays was a poster honouring some of the female stalwarts, who were in the frontline of the 1956 Uprising, which saw thousands of women fighting for the rights of women.
The station’s corporate communication and liaison services officer, Cpt Louise Le Roux, also created a collage in the form of a mini poster, reminding women that they were worthy of being acknowledged for their determination, ambition, compassion and diligence, their resilience, strength and ability to empower other women.

“Women visiting Hillside Mall were gifted with a women’s envelope of empowerment. The content in the envelope had the intention of empowering and educating recipients. A Brighton Beach Women’s Network ‘hope is an attitude’ bookmark aimed at reminding recipients that they must remain hopeful and never lose faith when trouble times or situations overwhelm them was also included. When they decide to be hopeful they open themselves to discover their wisdom and inner strength they might not have known existed,” said Cpt Le Roux.
A Brighton Beach SAPS telephone bookmark providing emergency contact numbers and contact details of various support organisations was also included.
“Contact details are also availed of where to lodge complaints when the rights as a victim of a crime as stipulated in the Victims Charter have not been upheld by government departments. The domestic violence awareness information guide explains what a domestic relationship is, applying for an interim protection order, its purpose and the process that follows until a final order is granted,” added Cpt Le Roux.
As a result of men and women, children, the elderly and the LGBTQ+ community being susceptible to acts of sexual assault, Cpt Le Roux researched and developed a new sexual assault awareness information guide that was included in the envelope.
“The objective of this guide is for victims to know which inappropriate actions imposed upon them constitute an act of sexual assault. The brochure also promotes the reporting of human trafficking to the South African National Human Trafficking hotline on 0800-222-777 or [email protected]. Three hundred and fifty women’s empowerment envelopes were distributed during the initiative,” she said.
Through this public awareness initiative, the SAPS had achieved their objective of empowering vulnerable groups, while acknowledging and honouring women for the roles they play within their societies.
Cpt Le Roux thank the management at Hillside Mall for affording them a platform to host their initiative.
