Road safety programme welcomed at S Dass Special School
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the programme and engaged actively through song and dance. They learnt about the rules of the road such as when crossing the road and obeying road signs. Some also received prizes for answering questions and for participating in a dance competition.
The Road Accident Fund (RAF), together with the Safer South Africa Foundation, held a road safety awareness day at PESCO Hall, for pupils of S Dass Special School, last week. Representatives from the KZN Department of Transport and Durban Metro Police also attended the event.
Convenor of the programme and teacher, Lynette Govender, said, “In preparation for the event, teachers prepared road safety lessons for the week and pupils engaged in art and craft which was displayed in the hall.”

The pupils have since started preparing their entries for the poster and essay competition, which closes on October 1.
“Road safety will be a recurring topic as pupils are on the road every day, either as pedestrians or passengers on buses, cars and taxis. We will equip them with the necessary information to make wise decisions to keep themselves safe on the road,” ended Govender.
