Community organisations invited to apply for Grant-In-Aid funding

Grant-In-Aid funding aims to alleviate the financial strain of organisations doing remarkable work to promote the creative arts in communities.

The city’s Parks, Recreation, and Culture Unit has set aside funding to assist non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the art, culture, and heritage sectors.

NGOs and non-profit organisations in these sectors in eThekwini are invited to apply for financial assistance to sustain their programmes.

They have until Friday, 25 August to apply for Grant-In-Aid funding. Grant-In-Aid funding aims to alleviate the financial strain of organisations doing remarkable work to promote the creative arts in communities.

This work contributes positively towards the development and promotion of art, culture, and heritage, especially in rural and township areas.

Chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Cllr Zama Sokhabase said with urban populations expanding, conserving cultural heritage is evolving, and the ideology of culture and heritage is eventually phasing out.

“With such challenges, the municipality has developed strategies to preserve historical assets which are still significant in the modern age,” she said.

She explained that this initiative is aligned with the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan to create economic opportunities for the development and promotion of art, culture and heritage programmes in townships and rural areas.

Application forms and guiding documents are accessible on the municipal website and can be obtained on request via email from [email protected].

Applicants are urged to read and understand the guiding document thoroughly before filling in the application form.
