Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital gives back to the community

The community at large saw the opportunity to not only get active but help with much-needed donations. Hospital manager, Stacey Naidoo, said that they were delighted by the enthusiastic community support.

Providing basic and affordable healthcare to the community is the heartbeat and the centre of what Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital has been built on. Today, the towering and multi-million rand health facility has come full circle after it celebrated its 35th anniversary with an exciting charity fun walk, on Sunday.

The day aimed to give back to the community that supported them over the years. The charity fun walk took place at Natest Primary School in Rockford, and all proceeds were donated to the Phoenix Child and Welfare Society.

The community at large saw the opportunity to not only get active but help with much-needed donations. Hospital manager, Stacey Naidoo, said that they were delighted by the enthusiastic community support.

“In celebrating 35 years of providing quality healthcare to the community, we decided that the best way to give back is via the Phoenix Child and Family Welfare Society. All proceeds from the event today will be donated to the welfare society. We partnered with many companies and organisations to showcase a successful event. Our sincere appreciation is extended to Natest Primary School and their team for allowing us to use their premises,” she said.

Doctors rooted at the hospital also wanted to show their support. Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Committee and vascular surgeon, Dr M Shaik, said that more community events of this nature are needed. An amount of R22, 000 was raised and Phoenix Child and Welfare Society vice-president, Dr Muni Kooblal, was on hand to receive the donated funds.

Dr Kooblal said, “The management and staff of Phoenix Child Welfare convey our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the amazing staff and management at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital. The proceeds raised at the event were generously donated to Phoenix Child Welfare to assist in rendering services to the most vulnerable.”

The day proved to be a huge success. Children were treated to fun games and activities. Snacks and beverage stalls were available, which created a vibrant and lively atmosphere. Empac Foods had also come on board and donated the proceeds raised at their food stall to PCW.

“Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital is a leading pioneering hospital in the community that not only contributes to the health and well-being of the community but also provides ongoing support by donating towards the work that our society does. We look forward to future endeavours that would make a positive difference in the lives of others,” added Dr Kooblal.
