The family’s attorney told the Rising Sun that the accused appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court, where the matter was adjourned to September 30, as the process of retrieving information from the post-mortem and blood analysis is needed.

Bellair SAPS communications officer, Sgt Pam Pillay, strongly condemned the alleged actions of the Mercedes Benz driver, as she called for all motorists to refrain from exceeding the speed limit on residential roads.

“Drinking and driving is prohibited. Those found driving while under the influence of alcohol or any substance with a narcotic effect will be prosecuted. The trend of reckless and negligent drivers has increased over the past few months, but law enforcement officers will not hesitate to prosecute those, who choose to put other lives at risk by driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances,” concluded Sgt Pillay.
