Men arrested for cable theft along railway line
While officers were conducting foot patrols on the railway line, near the Jacobs Railway Station, they spotted two suspicious men carrying backpacks and leaving the area.
A multi-disciplinary operation, with the aim of combating copper cable theft, led to the arrest of two men, last week. The operation was conducted on Monday, February 15, along the South Coast Road railway line.
While officers were conducting foot patrols on the railway line, near the Jacobs Railway Station, they spotted two suspicious men carrying backpacks and leaving the area.

“The police officers stopped the men and searched them. They found 20 kilograms of copper cables in their possession. When police officers questioned the men about the copper cables, they were unable to provide police with a satisfactory explanation,” said provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbele.
Both men, aged 27 and 28, were arrested and detained at the Wentworth police station for further processing.

They will further be profiled to determine whether they are involved in other criminal activities in the Wentworth and surrounding areas.
“Both men appeared in the Wentworth Magistrates Court and are facing charges for being in possession of suspected stolen property,” she concluded.
