MFC Care Centre makes great strides in the fight against drugs

The aim of the competition was to create awareness on the harmful consequences associated with drug abuse- a scourge which is very rife in many societies.

It was a joyous occasion as the MFC Care Centre hosted an annual awards ceremony for a recent drug awareness competition, that was opened to all primary schools within ward 71.

According to the team, the initiative also proved to be an outlet for young minds to express their views on the drug-problem facing their communities.

MFC Care Centre had three categories namely: the colouring competition for grades two to three, the art competition for grades four to five and the poetry/ essay competition for grades six to seven.

The budding artists and aspiring young writers produced a high calibre of work leading to the centre, receiving over 100 entries across the board.

Principal, Sandra Dollan, and her panel were the adjudicators for the competition. They were completely astounded by the amount of ingenuity and creativity that these young participants portrayed in their pieces of work.

Many schools attended this prestigious event along with their winning pupils. The event was a sterling success, bringing pride and joy not only to the brilliant pupils but to the board members of MFC Care Centre as well.

During the event, Dan Chellan, founder of the centre, launched his latest book entitled, ‘Say no to drugs’, and generously donated a book to every pupil present. Patrons from the centre gave powerful testimonies about their life before recovery and encouraged every youngster to stay clear of drugs as well as spread awareness to their peers about this growing issue.

The sponsors for the event included: Pro-Exterminators 300, Legal Terminators and the Chellan family.

A hearty meal was served and the youngsters were more than ecstatic to be part of something this phenomenal. Congratulations were extended to all participants and winners on their respective achievements.

“Our society is in dire need of strong future leaders, who have the courage to eradicate the scourge of drug abuse, as well as the social ills that accompany this disease. MFC Care Centre has completed a tremendous feat in taking the time to educate our youth and develop future leaders,” concluded Chellan.
