Businessman attacked with AK47 at golf estate in Centurion

About 21 AK47 cartridges were found on the scene where a business man was shot at by four men.

Police are investigating the attempted murder of a 56-year-old man who barely escaped with his life during a shooting at the Centurion Golf Estate in Centurion on Wednesday evening.

Taxi owner Joe Sibanyoni was travelling with a friend when he arrived at the golf estate’s parking lot in a red car after they had supper together around 22:45, according to a statement by the Lyttelton SAPS.

It is claimed that Sandile Masimula (21), an acquaintance of Sibanyoni, was driving the vehicle.

When the two got out of the vehicle, a white car entered the parking lot.

Four men, armed with rifles, started shooting at the men from their car.

“A patrolling security officer who was in the area managed to shoot 15 rounds at the suspects’ vehicle with his pistol and claimed that he managed to shoot one of them.

“About 21 AK47/R5 cartridges were found on the scene and Masimula was taken to Unitas hospital,” read the police statement.

The Centurion Golf Estate, as well as the Taxi Association South Africa, declined to comment at the time of publication.
