Chatsworth dad sentenced for murder
The father of three was sentenced in the Durban Regional Court, where Magistrate Prithi Bodha Khedun, said that he wants this sentence to send a message as Govender should have put his gun away in a safe before consuming alcohol.
A Durban magistrate handed down a prison sentence of 11 years to a Chatsworth father after he was found guilty of murdering a Malawian man, recently.
Patrick Saidi was killed in 2019 after he was killed for denying 39-year-old Sadasivan Shaun Govender alcohol at a local tavern.

The father of three was sentenced in the Durban Regional Court, where Magistrate Prithi Bodha Khedun, said that he wants this sentence to send a message as Govender should have put his gun away in a safe before consuming alcohol.
As such, Govender was sentenced to 10 years for murder and 12 months for handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
The communications officer of Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, explained the shooting.

“On November 5, 2019, the accused entered a licensed tavern where he demanded alcohol. There was an altercation where the bartender refused to serve the accused. The accused then shot the bartender. The accused handed himself over to police,” said Cpt Pillay.
The station commander of Chatsworth SAPS, Brig Ruth De Villiers, commended Det Sgt Khambule for his sterling investigations.
