Woman raped by neighbour in hostel
According to police, the alleged perpetrator is in their custody and is awaiting his bail hearing.
A Mobeni woman has been left with emotional scars after being raped by her neighbour in a local hostel, last Monday. The victim was in the bathroom when her neighbour allegedly forced himself on her. No one was around in the communal flat that they share, when the incident happened.
The 23-year-old said she is finding it hard to cope. “I am at times unable to sleep and when I do, I have terrible nightmares of the ordeal and wake up crying in the middle of the night. This incident has traumatised me,” she said.
After the incident, the victim went to her other neighbours for help. They attempted to console her and advised her to call the police and open a case of rape. At the police station, she was advised to go to the Addington Hospital for examination and treatment. The woman, who is originally from the Mthwalume area, was visiting her boyfriend when the incident occurred. According to police, the alleged perpetrator is in their custody and is awaiting his bail hearing.
Trying to work past her grief, she takes some solace in the support she gets from her boyfriend. “He gives me all the comfort and support I could ever ask for. He has been my pillar of strength in this trying time” she said.
