Wanted rape suspect tracked down by Umlazi SAPS
Brig BH Nkabinde, who is the station commander of Umlazi SAPS, said, “I applaud the swift response of the Umlazi SAPS tracing team. Had they not responded, another woman would have been raped. Such individuals do not belong in our society as they threaten the safety of women.”
Umlazi police made a breakthrough after they arrested a rape suspect, who was wanted for targeting women, who needed a job. The 32-year-old man will soon appear in court.
According to a report issued by the Umlazi SAPS communications team, on June 2, at about 12pm, police officers from the tracing team received information on the suspect.

He preyed on women, who would come to his workplace in search of a job.
Cnst GS Nyoni of the Umlazi SAPS communications team, said, “The victims would arrive to drop off their CVs. He would then follow them after they had left the premises. The suspect would somehow manage to lure the women into going to his place of residence, which was close to his workplace and upon arrival, he would then threaten them with a knife and rape them. On the day of the arrest, the suspect was spotted in the Umbilo area, just outside where he used to work after having been suspended for a pending rape case.”
Police officers proceeded to the said address where they found the suspect with a woman, who was about to become his next victim.
“The woman said he had also promised her a job. She was taken to a place of safety. The suspect was arrested and taken to Durban Central SAPS where he was detained,” added Cnst Nyoni.

He will possibly be linked to other cases if victims come forward.
