Drugs found hidden in freezer, woman arrested
She was apprehended at her home on Lobelia Road at Birchwood Park in Mariannhill, after the unit executed a search warrant at the premises.
The Provincial Organised Crime Unit continues to make great strides in the fight against drugs. Recently, the police officers arrested a 50-year-old woman after 401 blue and white heroin capsules and 61 pieces of crack cocaine were found hidden in her freezer.
She was apprehended at her home on Lobelia Road at Birchwood Park in Mariannhill, after the unit executed a search warrant at the premises.

Provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbele, said, “Prior to the arrest, the team kept observation at the premises. During the search, police also seized six SASSA cards, nine identity documents as well as various bank cards. The woman was placed under arrest for possession of drugs, possession of stolen property, contravention of the National Credit Regulation Act as well as contravention of the Home Affairs Act.”
The team thereafter proceeded to the Nazareth area where a search was conducted in a container, which is operating as a tuck-shop.

“Upon searching the container, police found nine mandrax tablets, 69 blue and white heroin capsules, 40 rock cocaine pieces, 123 bottles of Stilpane syrup, 22 bottles of cough syrup and 200 Xanax tablets. A 30-year-old man was placed under arrest,” she added.
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old woman was arrested for being in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R3, 300 and cash of R17, 210 in Bayview, on Monday. She is expected to appear in court soon.
