Young Chatsworth DJ makes waves on East Coast
The Chatsworth lad has grown to become an established DJ and music producer in Durban and at a very young age, he is encouraging other aspiring DJs to follow their passion in the music industry, despite the challenges they face during the lockdown.
East Coast Radio DJ and local producer, Jashen Joel Govindsamy, is just 21-years-old and has made waves on air and on social media platforms with a recent song, which went viral and is now trending all over the country, becoming a TikTok dance trend.
The Chatsworth lad has grown to become an established DJ and music producer in Durban and at a very young age, he is encouraging other aspiring DJs to follow their passion in the music industry, despite the challenges they face during the lockdown.
Well-known by his stage name, Jashmir, he is described as a special kind of artist with a passion for his art and a distinctive sound that sets him apart.

Despite him being one of the youngest DJs in Durban, Jashmir has already achieved a handful of his goals and shared his fondest moments as a DJ.
“I collaborated with prominent rappers and artists from all over the world. I aim to lay down a unique sound style for a new generation and the music industry is listening up. My style varies from groovy basses to euphoric pop and underground trap. I was involved in the underground trap community by working with and building up local rappers as well,” he said.
In 2018, Jashmir had his first hit track aired on Channel O and MTV Base. Since then, he has performed at major events such as Nasty C’s Ivyson Tour and landed his first weekly radio residency on the country’s biggest stations, East Coast Radio.
He’s been in the spotlight recently for a trending meme remix titled ‘Don’t drink and drive challenge’, which has become a popular song in SA and on TikTok.
